About Museum

Founded in the heart of Tokyo in 1967, WHITESTONE GALLERY has been a pioneer gallery in Japanese art scene. For the purpose of creating more dialogues between art and region, we opened KARUIZAWA NEW ART MUSEUM in Karuizawa (2012) as a rare example of private museums in Japan.

NEW ART MUSEUM SINGAPORE grandly opened in October 2023. Located at Tanjong Pagar Distripark (TPD), a burgeoning art area in Singapore, has recently seen tremendous growth and transformation. Formerly a seaport freight service industrial warehouse, the location has since attracted various art-related units. Additionally, in 2022, the Singapore Art Museum, recognized for its focus on contemporary art, chose TPD as its new home, elevating the area’s prominence both locally and internationally.

NEW ART MUSEUM SINGAPORE’s architectural design is by Kengo Kuma, the world-renowned architect who designed the Tokyo Olympic Stadium as well as Singapore Founders’ Memorial. “Singapore boasts a global hub port in Southeast Asia. A large-scale warehouse space facing the port was converted into the largest gallery space in Asia. At the reception, visitors are welcomed by a space under the trees symbolizing the abundant nature of Singapore, and are led out of the hustle and bustle of the city into an extraordinary world of art in the sunlight filtering through the trees.” says Kengo Kuma.
